Product Description
This is a scale model of the Tropic Breeze wind generator. These were and are used to prevent frost damage to crops. The prototype for this particular model was found in a vineyard near St. Helena California. It was one of the first such generators installed in the Napa Valley. These wind generators were first used in 1946 and are still in use today. The manufacturer was originally the National Frost Protection Company, Incorporated. I observed these same machines in the late 1960s in the orchards around Lodi, California. It is interesting that the pole serves as the fuel tank and the top platform rotated while in operation. Click here for a 1946 article about this machine.
You will need to attach the wind blades and paint to finish the model.
