These are models of the Southern Pacific stock cars. They are designed for Micro-Trains trucks and 1015 short shank coupler.
K&S 8246 1/2″ brass stock or similar can be used for the floor and to add weight the car. Additional weights are also recommended in addition to the brass. A better option can be purchased from TxChemist Tungsten on Ebay. Look for “1 Tungsten pinewood weight Stick on Plate” for One TxW Alloy plate 0.7 oz. (0.095″x0.5″x1.72″). Another way to add weight is with metal cows. Pendraken Miniatures model 10-NML1 10mm cows are perfect for this. Pendraken also makes 10mm sheep.
Coupler installation is with a normal Micro-Trains 1015. A mounting hole is provided. (If you have earlier chassis with the more complex coupler attachment procedure contact me and I will send you new chassis ) You will also need to add the brake wheel and shaft. For this I recommend Gold Medal Models 160-5 etched metal brake wheels and 0.008″ phosphor bronze wire.
Decals are provided. Send me the full information on the car if you would like decals for a specific car. Decals are printed on an Alps printer. As a result they limited by the 300dpi capacity of the printer. Some car information is not really readable as a result. Also the decals should be over sprayed clear to protect the decal lettering from rubbing off. It is best to cut the car information as two groups and apply them as two decals. Once the decal is applied to the car and has set, use a knife to slit the decals along the slats. Use Micro-Sol or a similar decal settling fluid to get the edges of the decal to settle into the slats.
These cars were built from the 1910s through the 1920s and were in use through the 60s when SP abandoned the carrying of livestock.
